Scrap Friends - July sketch

Hello there everyone....thought I would squeeze in one more challenge layout before the end of the month, and I couldn't go past the fabo sketch at Scrap Friends :)))

Here is what I came up with...sticking true to the sketch

I went for some natural tones with this one to help match in with my photos, which are from our trip to Port Arthur In Tasmania 18 months ago.
Papers I've used are BoBunny & Basic Grey....and some REALLY OLD Tim Holtz journal tickets popping out from the photos, as well as some washi tape across the top & bottom..

Here is the sketch

Now for some close ups
My cluster, using some Prima, Manor House & Kaisercraft flowers....and the branch with leaves & blossoms is hand cut using Crafters Workshop Cherry Blossom template.

Here is a better view of the cherry blossoms.....
I used gesso mixed with paint to mask with the CW template on some fairly thick cardstock, then once dry I fussy cut it all out (I know...crazy!!) then I added some stickles for a bit of texture.  I then decided I wasn't happy with the colour that I had mixed with the gesso, so I mixed up a concoction of all sorts of things (paint, mists & more gesso) to finally get a colour I was happy with.  When it was all finally dry, I then added some brown stickles AGAIN with some light inking over the top once it was all dry (lots of patients was needed with all the drying today! lol)

I'm quite happy with the end result, so well worth the effort & patience :)

Some hand made fabric covered buttons

Journaling with some template & stamping work....again, using my Gelatos :)))

Title using some really old Pink Paislee & Prima alpha stickers

And an overall close up shot

Well, that's all for now folks :)
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend & also your week ahead.
Thanks for dropping by...xxx

Paper Stories - July sketch

Hello everyone & happy weekend to you all :)

It's only been a week, and I'm back to share another layout....yep, miracles do happen!! LOL

Things are starting to get back to some kind of normality (whatever that is) around here, so that means a little bit more scrapping time ....woohooo!

I really love the sketches over at Paper Stories, created by none other than the very talented Em Stafrace...so I love to participate when ever I can.  Anddddddd, giving a little toot to myself, I was lucky enough to win last months sketch challenge....yippeeee & woohooo! LOL

So, anyways....on with this months sketch.
This is the layout I created.....

Using the gorgeous "Attic Door" papers from Lemon Owl
with some masking & stamping (that I will explain in more detail with some of the close up pics)

And here is the July sketch

And now for some close ups....

For the background masking I used CW chickenwire template....with my new Gelatos (still loving the possibilities with these things!).  Using an ink blending tool, I rubbed my gelato onto the sponge, then spritzed it with a bit of water from an old glimmermist bottle (these are great to keep for this purpose when your glimmermist is all used up!)....I then coloured the areas I wanted with the blending tool & just reloaded with Gelato & water when needed.  I love that this is a more controlled technique than what misting is....and it gives just as good a result, if not better!

I then randomly stamped using Kaisercraft "Crackle" stamp on top of the masking..without using a base holder thing (IYKWIM)...I simply hold the stamp in my hand & that way you get a more random effect, rather than the square stamp image - hope this makes sense!?!

My small cluster on top of a few handcut paper banners.

Here is some more stamping, using Kaisercraft "Numbers" stamp....which ended up a little bit too dark for my liking, so to overcome this?  I simply used my white Gelato & rubbed it over the stamped ink...and walllahhh, it actually did tone it down a heap, which I like much better.

You can also see some 2crafty filmstrip chipboard running across & below my photos, that I lightly inked in black.... and a few My Minds Eye brads & a handmade fabric covered button.

And my title & journaling....about our little unplanned hike up to Lake Wilks at Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, which was well & truly off the beaten track, but oh so worth the effort!

And another MME brad & one of the cut-outs from Lemon Owl

Well that's all from me for now....hoping to squeeze in another challenge before the end of the month!
Fingers crossed :)

Thanks so much for visiting today....take care xx

July ~ Scrap Around the World

Hello there fellow scrappers...long time no see!

This is the first challenge that I've scrapped all month - to be honest, it's the first chance that I've had as things have been a little hectic around here.

But anways...on with my layout for the SATW challenge for July,

Of course, my layout is based on this months gorgeous sketch & mood board.
I took inspiration from the pale green, white & silver tones, as well as the dangling keys in the image  at the bottom left of the board, and I pretty much stuck to the sketch as is, except I've used 2 smaller landscape photos rather than a larger portrait shot.  My photos are from an amazing garden that's about 1.5 hours drive from where I live...and this water feature is just one of many that are there.  If you ever get the chance, it is well worth a visit to Mayfield Gardens - they are only open a few times a year though - Spring & Autumn.

Here is this months mood board & sketch....

I used Prima papers from the Tea - Thyme collection, along with a few of the blooms & chipboard pieces that was included in the loot that I won at Scrap Friends many months ago (this is the first time I've cracked into this gorgeous bit of stash...how slack am I!)  I've also had a bit of a play with my new Gelato's...wow the things you can do with these little gems are endless!

Ok, on with some closeups

The lime green flower was a little too bright, so I lightly & randomly coated it in gesso
(another product that it's uses are endless)

The dangling keys that were part of my inspiration - they are 2Crafty chipboard keys (of course) that I've added some texture by putting a bit of sand in with my gesso & then painted in glimmermist, before tieing them up in a little bunch.

Another small cluster with a piece of leftover 2crafty chipboard from many months ago....and on the background you can see some heat embossed stamping.

The die cut leaves were cut out in plain white cardstock & then I just shaded here and there using a silver Gelato for some highlights - love how this lifted the leaves!

And my journaling

And a close up overall view.

I'm not sure if you can see or not from the close ups...but I also used the silver Gelato with a crackled stamp on the background (look to the left of the Prima ticket).  I love how this gives a more softer subtle effect than what ink does :)

Anyways...that's all from me
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend (what's left of it)
If you're looking for a challenge to scrap, why not join in at Scrap Around the World....it's a gorgeous sketch & mood board & I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun along the way.

Until next time, take care....xxx
