Creative Team Article on Buttons for Scrapbooking Memories - Vol 16 No. 12

Hi everyone....hope you're all having a great week!

Today I'm going to share a couple of projects that were part of my CT article for Scrapbooking Memories that was in issue Vol. 16 No. 12.  The article was on the good ol' humble button....and the many ways of using & altering them.  It covered things like : covering with washi tape, stamping on them, painting with paint & crackle paint, heat embossing & also using patterned paper
under a clear button.

"Reaching 50"

My first project was a layout....that features quite a few buttons. They are included in my clusters, form a bit of a feature strip along the bottom of the photo, joined together with twine..... & they're also scattered across the page.

Here you can see one that I've heat embossed (the lemon/black one).

And in this cluster there is one that's covered in washi :)

& 3 buttons tied together with some twine

And below is a pic from the magazine that also featured some close ups of the buttons that I altered

Bottom L to R - 3 washi covered buttons,  3 painted in crackle paint, 3 heat embossed buttons & 3 clear buttons with patterned paper adhered underneath.
The top 3 buttons are stamped with Stazon ink.

My next project was a canvas....

"Family Tree"

Using a variety of different coloured, & sized, green buttons....which form the leaves of the tree.

I first prepared the background of the canvas with gesso & texture paste that I randomly spread so that the canvas wasn't so "flat" looking....and without adding too much texture that would distract from what I wanted to feature - the buttons that formed the tree.

The chipboard piece is 2Crafty - Floral Branch....and I cut off the all the little flowers so that I then had the trunk & branches to form my tree.

Floral Branch
This is the 2Crafty Floral Branch piece before I cut it up & altered it

To get the texture in the trunk & branches, I added a HEAP of modelling paste & then dragged the prongs of a fork through it to give the look & texture of bark on a tree - I've used this technique before & love how it's turned out both times...I think it looks very real & life like :)
I then painted it brown with mist sprays

The little verse on the canvas reads:  "May the roots of your family tree grow deep and strong"

My little canvas now hangs proudly in my scrap room <3

I hope you've enjoyed the basics of my article....if you'd like to read more, I'm sure a back copy of Vol. 16 No. 12 would be availabe if you searched online.

Thanks so much for dropping by!  xx

Echo Park "Capture Life" for All About Scrapbooks

Hi everyone & thanks for popping in today :)

Just a quick post tonight to share another layout created with Echo Park's "Capture Life" collection for All About Scrapbooks.  And I know I am repeating myself here, but this seriously is a super versatile collection :)

This is my 4th layout....and this one is using teal & yellow tones for a bit of a beachy layout.

"Tossed Salad - on the run"

I've used the gorgeous Damask paper for my background....I love the colour of this
& the fabulous damask pattern.

Here's a few close ups.....

Love that little typewriter!!

Pics are of silly me eating salad with my hands, out of a plastic bag! LOL  We had just finished the first leg a long hike & had packed some food - the salad was one of the things & there were no plates/bowls, knives or forks...lol

Kaisercraft DT - Mix & Match

Hello everyone :)

Today I have a few projects to share, created as part of my Design Team work for Kaisercraft.
Using the VERY versatile "Mix & Match" collection.  This collection is a mix of Kraft, Red, Black & White...and also comes with some matching embellishments.

"Pre 20's drinks"

I decided to go with the Kraft coloured paper for my background & it also has that fabo chicken wire print in white.  It is the reverse side of the "Lace" paper (I have recently noticed that I seem to use the B/reverse sides of papers A LOT!)

I hand cut the chevrons from the "Crosses" paper (again, the B side...lol).
The chevron's on this paper are red and kraft in colour....I needed them to be white, so I painted them in gesso - problem solved :D  They are mounted up on foam tape to give them
height & definition on the page

I've used pieces from the Collectables pack, Doily & Alpha sticker sheets, some paper blooms....along with some 2Crafty chipboard feathers for my cluster.
And you can see bits of my journaling along the bottom of the last chevron.
I had wanted to do the journaling in white, but, of course, my white journal pen
did not want to cooperate!

The arrows are also from the Alpha Sticker Sheet, as is the kraft alpha stickers.

Kaisercraft Products: Mix & Match – Lace P1600, Crosses P1599, Butterflies P1591, Doilies Sticker Sheet SS253, Alpha Sticker Sheet SS252, Coconut Paper Blooms F627, Fire Red Paper Blooms F664, Honey Paper Blooms F628, Script Texture Stamp CS752, Black Ink Pad IP719, Red Ink Pad IP734, Vintage Ink Pad IP723, Licorice Cardstock CD102, Foam Tape T303, Double Sided Tape T314

Other: 2Crafty Chipboard feathers, Fabric Button, Mists

Next up is another layout

"New found friend"

Again, I've gone for a kraft coloured background & I've added some template work with modelling paste, and some chevron stamping on top of that.  The template is a new release one called "Quarters" - it has 4 different patterns, each taking up a 1/4 of the template :)

I fussy cut one of the butterflies from the "Butterflies" paper (yay, this one isn't the B side!! lol) and added some paper blooms, heart sticker & fabric button to form my cluster.

I've added a few pieces of cream lace in between my paper layers...as well as a new printed tape "Black Arrows" which will be released next month!

I've added my trademark strip journaling to tell the story about these 2 meeting
& becoming friends <3

Black Ink Pad IP719

Other: Fabric Button, Modelling Paste

Next is an altered picture frame

The frame was bought from one of the cheap shops, and I made sure that the front surface of it was flat....knowing that I'd be adhering paper to it.  I've used the reverse side of the "Confetti" paper, with those fabulous arrows, to cover the front of the frame. I've also splashed some red & white mists randomly over the paper.

I added a pretty cluster to the top left side of the frame....with another butterfly fussy cut from the Butterflies paper, some paper blooms & mini paper blooms, a doily sticker & some diecut leaves using KC red cardstock....and a few buttons.

Across the bottom of the frame I've added one of the cut-off strips with some hearts from the Doily Sticker sheet mounted on foam tape.

Hello again lovelies...and a huge welcome :)

As I mentioned in my previous post, I am up on the Kaisercraft blog this week, so you can expect a few posts from me featuring all 3 collections released this month.

Today I'm sharing my creations using the fabulous
"Outdoor Trail" collection....which is the perfect collection for all those camping, hiking, outdoors, fishing, hunting photos to be scrapped :)

First up is a layout...

"Take a Hike"

I've used the dark wood panelled paper "Bush" for the background and I've lightened it slightly by adding some dabbed on gesso & some template work using one of the new KC templates - Quarters, which has 4 different patterns on the one stencil!!  There's also some stamping over the top of the textured background work - but it's probably a bit hard to see it here....

Here's a bit of a close up of the stencil/background work and the stamping
is a bit more visible here too.

I've layered pieces of PP, Collectables & also paper from the Paper Pad in under my photo.

As well as at the top of the page.

This time I've used a lighter paper for the background (Frontier) and have added some stamping using KC Chevron stamp...as well as some of the word stamps in the Outdoor Trail stamp pack.

Again, lots of Collectables used....in & around my cluster, plus in amongst my paper layers & at the top & bottom of the page.

A cluster of blooms & Collectables.
Have you ever noticed that there is ALWAYS the pefect coloured Kaisercraft paper bloom to match the colours in any of their collections???  I love that <3

A few more Collectables pieces layered at the bottom of the page, also with stickers
from the Sticker sheet.
